THE INTENTION of Arts Qld Senior Project Officer, Nora Zbranek, was to create an interesting and inviting public meeting space and to emphasise the branding and building signs for the State Library of Queensland.
The brief to Watts Smith was to design a new image for the existing 45 metres billboard that had been erected nearly 10 years previously.
Watts Smith consists of lead artist James Watts and technical support by Ricky Smith. James Watts is a sculptor and installation artist who constructs medium to large scale works incorporating a wide variety of materials. Ricky Smith’s technical approach is to deign balanced artwork that communicates various visual perspectives. THEIR VISION for this project at the Queensland Cultural Centre was to create an inspiring installation that would cause passer-by’s to stop and ponder the meaning of the digitally printed visually stimulating moëbius.

The individual Permasign letters had white acrylic faces with aluminium returns, painted to match. They were attached to a steel frame that was sprayed grey to blend in with the background colour.
